The Journey of us.

2012/2013 Curriculum

Well another school year is going to be begining soon. After a lot of researching, along with trial and error we have decided on, and ordered all our curriculum for this upcoming year.  I am even more excited about our choices this year, then last!  This school year we will also be incorporating the girls into our school days, so that means FOUR kids each day instead of two.  A lot of changes this school year that is for sure!

We use non-secular curriculum for the most part, as we like to incorporate our love and appreciation for the Lord in all aspects of our life, and any chance you get to further your knowledge is a blessing, to us.

Changes:

This school year there will be some changes like I said before; now that my oldest girl is doing better with her treatment, and my little monkey is getting bigger they will be added to the homeschooling routine more often. The boys have started TKD so they will be attending this two nights a week, and I am thinking about signing them up for swimming lessons as well which would be one weekend morning.  I setup a preschool group for the girls to start in October that I will be leading too, which should be super fun!  And, sadly a good friend, and the Organizer of our homeschool group will be moving; I will be stepping up to help organize now.  At this point I am not in school, until I am accepted into the RN program; which means a lot less on my plate at this point.  Thus far I have been homeschooling while going to school, working part time, and taking care of a sick kiddo. Thankfully the load is lessining, at this point anyways.  The little repreive is something I am very greatful for.

The boys:

After a lot of careful consideration we ordered and received all our curriculum for this year.  And, we are very excited about it!  The boys will be using LIFEPAC, for Language Arts, and Math.  For Language Arts, we will also be going a bit more indepth with poetry, and using several resources I have came across.  And, they will be refreshing on nouns, adjectives, verbs etc through school house rock and mad libs!   Apologia Astronomy for Science, Read & Understand Science, Astronomy club, a Science fair I am putting together, and much more.  U.S. History through Childrens Literature - for U.S. history, Mystery of History for World History, and we incorporate social studies and geography in through our history.  We will also be using, Daily Geography practice, maps, globes, scrambled states of America, and other fun things.  For music, both boys have an interest in the Drums, and guitar so they will be working to learn both, and using Alfreds Essentials of Music Theory to learn some of the essentials.  As for art we have the book discovering great artists to work from, along with a lot of art projects I have pinned on pintrest, and art club within our homeschool group, that I help lead; which is super fun!

The Girls:

The girls are at two different levels of preschool learning, my oldest is in the more pre-k range, she can write most of her letters, identify them, and make some of their sounds. She knows how to spell a few words, and can recognize some words written.  She can count well past twenty, and speaks very well.  My youngest (2), has a speach impediment, she is a little behind on her speach, but not her knowledge. She recognizes most of her colors, understands most things we tell her, can follow simple instructions, organize toys, etc.  So, for the girls we will just be working in these areas in simple ways.  I like doing preschool through life, and interest, rather then lots of workbooks and curriculum.  They will be apart of the preschool group, which should be a lot of fun for both of them.

The kids also have a long list of reading books that they can choose from at the library each week, for reading time.   Some other fun parts of our curriculum will be some games we have bought like Blurt, Scrambled States of America, Blokus, Scrabble, and others.  The kids all have art and nature journals that they use on a regular basis as well.  To be honest, we don't even know when we will begin school this school year! We are thinking late Sept. because we want to wait for summer to be over, we have such a short one here in Washington. :)
